Meeting Overview
BIOCOMM 2023
Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote Address
Will Wilson, Diné photographer
Will Wilson’s art projects center around the continuation and transformation of customary indigenous cultural practice. He is a Diné photographer and trans-customary artist who spent his formative years living on the Navajo Nation. With his lens based artistry, Wilson challenges the traditional portrayal of the indigenous North American image and reclaims it for modern generations.
Wilson studied photography, sculpture, and art history at the University of New Mexico (MFA, Photography, 2002) and Oberlin College (BA, Studio Art and Art History, 1993). In 2017, Wilson received the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. His work is exhibited and collected nationally and internationally.
Will Wilson will give the Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote Address. This endowed lectureship, in the memory of Maria (Ikenberg) Lindberg is the opening presentation at the BCA Annual Meeting, BIOCOMM 2020 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This address will inspire and set the tone for the meeting.
In his keynote address Will Wilson will discuss his work as a lens-based artist and educator with a special focus on two of his current projects, the Auto Immune Response (AIR) project and his Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX).
